Suzanne Lumpe Askren was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on November 11, 1962. She passed away in Irvine, California, on June 3rd, 2019. She was 56.

 

Suzanne graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of California, Riverside in 1984. She continued on to receive a Master's in Magazine Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 1991.

 

Suzanne was an intelligent and ambitious person who loved reading and writing as well as wildlife and landscape photography. She traveled extensively, living and volunteering abroad in countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, Costa Rica, and India. She loved languages; along with being fluent in French, she was studying Khmer for ESL certification. Suzanne had a versatile set of skills. She worked as a web developer, a magazine editor, a systems and quality assurance analyst, and a market research and editorial consultant. She was a published author, writing both trade articles and creative pieces.

 

She was the daughter of the late Albert Lumpe, Jr. and Kathleen Lumpe, of Riverside, California. Suzanne is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Askren; her sisters, Natalie Gomez and Nancy Ferguson; her nieces and nephew; and her friends around the world.

No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Elephant Conservation Center in Laos.
